Give each job an edge before you give it more stuff

Two activities can share a room when each has a legible territory, a route that does not cut through the other job, and enough sensory separation for both to work.

Read it

  1. 01Name the jobs first. A vague 'multi-use room' cannot be zoned honestly.
  2. 02Find the shared conflict: sound, glare, privacy, storage landing, or traffic crossing through the activity.
  3. 03Use the lightest reversible edge that can test the idea: rug, curtain, screen, lighting shift, furniture back, or planting.

Test it

  1. 01Mark the proposed edge without buying anything permanent.
  2. 02Use both jobs at the same time for a realistic session.
  3. 03Record whether the conflict moved, disappeared, or merely relocated into the route.

What counts as proof

The proof is simultaneous use with less interference. A pretty divider that creates a pinch point is a failed zone.
